The Monstera (cheese plant) is a member of the Araceae family and originates in Central and South America. It is a tropical creeper which can climb to great heights.
The characteristic leaves are ‘full of holes’, which form as the plant reaches maturity.

The Monstera is very strong and does not require a lot of looking after. Simply water it regularly and give it plant food once a month. The plant can live in either a dark or a well-lit place. The more light there is, the quicker it will grow. However, don’t place Monstera in direct sunlight. The long aerial roots can be pruned. You can also trail them towards the pot compost, after which they will carry on growing as ground roots.
Monstera thrives best of all in a well-lit environment. Never place Monstera in direct sunlight as this may scorch the leaves. In the summer months, the plant will grow one or two leaves each week. If this is not the case, then the plant might not be getting enough light. Do not count on any new leaves in the winter as this is when the plant is resting.
